1991年、アメリカ合衆国フロリダ州タンパにて結成されたパワーメタルバンド。ギタリストのThomas YoungbloodとドラマーのRichard Warnerによって結成された。リーダーはThomas Youngbloodで、現在までバンドに在籍する唯一のオリジナルメンバーでありメインソングライターである。3rdアルバム『Siége Perilous』の製作段階でConceptionで活躍していたノルウェー人ヴォーカリストのRoy Khanが加入。また、ドラマーのRichard Warnerの後任としてCasey Grilloが加入したことにより、バンドの表現力は飛躍的に向上した。Royは4thアルバム『The Fourth Legacy』以降はThomas Youngbloodとメインソングライターを担うようになり、以後、特に日本やヨーロッパにおいて人気が急上昇した。2005年には、以前からツアーに帯同していたキーボーディストのOliver Palotaiが正式加入し、5人編成となる。2011年4月、Roy Khanが自身の健康上の理由により正式に脱退を表明、代役のツアー・ヴォーカリストはFabio Lione(Rhapsody of Fire)らが務めた。2012年6月末、Roy Khanの後任としてSeventh WonderのTommy Karevikが加入。同年秋、Karevik加入後初となる10thアルバム『Silverthorn』をリリース。なお、KarevikはSeventh Wonderを脱退せず、両バンドの活動を並行して続けている。 2015年春(日本では4月29日、キングレコードより)、11thアルバム『Haven』がリリースされた。5thアルバム『Karma』以降、ドイツや日本をはじめヨーロッパ圏内でも徐々にチャートに入るようになり、9thアルバム『Poetry for the Poisoned』以降はUS Billboard 200において70位台に入っており、アメリカにおけるパワーメタルバンドの代表格と見なされている。Current members (リーダーはThomas Youngblood)Thomas Youngblood - Lead/Rhythm Guitars, Orchestral Arrangement (1991–present)Sean Tibbetts - Bass Guitars (1991–1992) (2009–present)Casey Grillo - Drums, Percussion (1997–present)Oliver Palotai - Keyboards, Orchestral & Choir Arrangement (2005–present)Tommy Karevik - Lead Vocals, Backing Vocals (2012–present)
